The Religious Affiliation of Comic Book Character

Someone pointed this out at another forum. I found it to be quite amusing that someone would actually have enough time on their hands to ponder about this.

...The only TT [Teen Titans] member the mentioned that I saw was Aqualad. And of course he's Atlantean.

Well, as far as the Titans go, Raven is obvious. Superboy is the same as Superman. Wonder Girl is the same as Wonder Woman. Kid Flash is the same as Barry Allen. Beast Boy was raised by scientists, so he's be atheist. Starfire follows the Tamaranian religion.

All scientists = atheists? :erm: Just because Garfield's parents are scientists doesn't mean they're bound to be atheists.

What religions do you think the Titans are?

Here's mine:
Robin: shinto or some other Japanese discipline based one
Starfire: whatever Tamaranians believe in
Beast Boy: pagan
Raven: possibly pagan, maybe a darker form
Cyborg: atheist
Terra: ??? Help with that one.

What do you think?

Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 12:27 pm

Brother Blood is clearly Southern Baptist.

And Slade is almost definitely a member of the Swordbearers.

(15 points to anybody who gets that reference.)

Azarath Princess
Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 12:33 pm

Oh yes, definitely a Southern Baptist. And maybe Terra's Muslim!! Laughing

Sonic Titan
Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 6:09 pm

Oh mein gaut. Are you serious, or was it a joke?

Here's my take:
robin sez: "Christian."
cyborg sez: "Catholic"
raven sez: "There is no god"
star [Starfire] sez: "Glorp!"
terra sez: "Muslim."
bb [Beast Boy] sez: "What's religion?"

As you can probably tell, I'm just screwing around.

Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 7:07 pm

Ah ha! I've got some:

Robin: Unorthodox Ashism, the religion that involves working at a supermarket and spouting one-liners ad nauseum (Robin is unorthodox because all of his are lame)

Starfire: Some freaky-deaky Tamaranian religion that involves dancing around naked with a chicken

Cyborg: Alvis-time, the holiday of drinking and vengeance

Beastboy: Doesn't know, but can't even spell religion.

Raven: Whatever it is that half-demons must worship while wearing a spandex leotard, and having a shard of glass forcibly shoved into your forehead upon birth.

The Muffin Man
Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 8:04 pm

Robin I'd say Christian or agnostic.

Cyborg, despite it being slightly stereotypical, many black families are deeply religious. Catholic is right here too.

Raven doesn't have the same Gods so I'd say Pagan/Atheist.

BB [Beast Boy] is an atheist.

Starfire would either have a Tamaranian God/dess or agnostic.

Chief M2
Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:49 pm

Clearly out of all of them, I wouldn't expect anyone to say that Cyborg was the atheist. He should clearly be the Baptist (hopefully before he got his armor) Wear rubber gloves, preacher.

As for Terra: what the Russians believe in. (My theory still)

Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:57 pm

In ze Communist Russia,

Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:57 pm

Robin: Jewish
Beast Boy: Jewish
Raven: Azarathian... or a Buddha lover.
Starfire: A space version of people who respect mother nature.
Cyborg: Jewish... or atheist
Terra: Muslim... or catholic.
Dr. Light: Total whatever Arabics believe in...

Chief M2
Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:58 pm

Warp - Whatever the French believe in. (Catholic?)

Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 8:25 pm

Mad Mod - Britishism. He founded a new religion because he found all religions that did not focus on Biscuits atrocious.

Chief M2
Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 8:28 pm

Now we're just making up religions. I think the British are Catholic too.

Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 8:33 pm

Haha. Well Mad Mod would do it. He only changed the whole USA into a strange British Fiesta, imagine what he could do to the Catholic Religion?

Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 10:45 pm

Mad Mod worships Monty Python. And the Beatles. There's enough evidence in the chase scenes alone and crashing feet to prove that.

So far as the other Titans go, considering that Robin grew up around Batman, who doesn't believe in God, and also considering that Robin thinks a lot, he's probably agnostic. I can see Cyborg being of some Christian sect. He's a little too perky to a Jehovah's Witness or Southern Baptist and eats too much to be Mormon (no offense to any Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses out there...), I'd say he's just good old Baptist or Catholic or something. Raven is probably something along the lines of a Azarathian equivalent of Wicca (and real Wicca....not just someone who walks around saying they are so because it's cool and trendy these days.), Beast Boy being an earth-y boy might be Buddhist (He's vegetarian too so that fits as well...), and Starfire is something weird and weirder. I'm out of ideas. Those last few were kinda half-efforted heh.

Actually, I don't think the Titans have any time to even bother with a religion, with the exception of Raven since her powers seem to be based upon whatever it is she practices, but it's a fun thought...

Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 11:13 pm

All practices of Britishism, me ducky. *winkwink*

Azarath Princess
Posted: Tue Nov 02, 2004 11:19 pm

Wiccan! Raven rocks. And I hate those posers...

Posted: Wed Nov 03, 2004 8:03 pm

...my religion pics (don't worry, they're real)

Robin: WASP (White Anglo-Saxxon Protestant)
Raven: WICCA (all that pagan stuff)
Cyborg: Black Muslim (Boo-yah, muhulla hulla allaaaa...eya!)
Beast Boy: Jewish (Because he's an annoying comedian, like Woody Allen)
Starfire: Religious Scientist (because they're into that huggy lovey "lets be friends" crap)
Terra: Doesn't have time for religion because she's always on the move, but I'd say she was baptized under the Markovian Orthodox church.

Posted: Wed Nov 03, 2004 8:44 pm

Raven, despite being somewhat like a stereotypical "witch" as far as her mannerisms, powers, and even being called one, seems to have nothing to do with Wicca at all aside from the fact that she spends a lot of time in meditation (in order to keep her powers under control). She doesn't give a damn about the Earth, she doesn't carry a pentagram, she has nothing to do at all with anything remotely Pagan aside from having cool powers and looking somewhat "witchy". It's like calling her a Goth. The similarities are only skin deep.

Posted: Wed Nov 03, 2004 10:12 pm

She's [Raven] a different sect, one of the arcane ones that flourished after the introduction of Roman culture.

Posted: Wed Nov 03, 2004 10:45 pm

Okay, this is stupid, but... (and, cough/uncough, Robin isn't Japanese...)

Robin = something Christian MAYBE... Most likely agnostic or whatever that one person said.

Starfire = Tamaranian religion. You notice all the holidays and festivals she celebrates?

BB [Beast Boy] = VEGANISM! Shocked (except for pie. he loves pie. especially the greatest pie in the history of pie. Razz ) Maybe Buddhism.

Raven = "What is 'god'? I only know of demons and creepy evil things." (jk [just kidding]) Maybe the Azarathian religion.

Cy [Cyborg] = Uh... idk [I don't know]. maybe none.
Terra= some religion where they worship "mother Earth" Razz Maybe Taoism.
Jinx= Pagan. She's a witch.
Mammoth= Animal Worship (lol)
Ginx= "Church? Ha! I haven't been in one of those in six years! I only worship the almighty Glowing Box. And the god of computers."
Slade= Sadism. (Maybe also sadomasochism...ew. Shocked)
Hive Head Mistress= Britishism. Razz
Bumble Bee= Feminism. Shocked
Aqualad= Atlantean religion. Probably has something to do with the sea or animals or something..
Blackfire= "Reli...gion? Oh yeah! I think they had that at this one big place with pointy towers that I stole stuff from!"
Red X (new)= "Looking out for number 1." (maybe slight narcissism?)
Mad Mod= Britishism, with slight "hatred towards goody-goodys and teenagers"-ism.

Posted: Wed Nov 03, 2004 10:54 pm

Haha! BUDDA BUDDA BUDDA! (don't ask) YOU THINK ROBIN IS JEWISH?! HAHAHA! (That religion where people respect mother nature is called Taoism, Miss bunny.)

Posted: Fri Nov 05, 2004 7:06 pm

Terra - Doesn't know religion no influence
Robin - What ever batman is
BB [Beast Boy] - Christian (He seems to know the story of Jonah and the Whale LOL)
Cyborg - Dunno
Starfire - Tamaranian
Rae [Raven] - Demons???

What did I tell you?! I knew she was a freakin' commie!!!

Posted: Sat Nov 06, 2004 11:30 pm

No she's not, she's Swedish. Why? Cuz I said so. And there was an extremely faint Swedish accent. Razz

Posted: Sun Nov 07, 2004 1:01 am

Beastboy is probably a Communist too, he'd do anything to get a chick.

Then again, if I was green... I'd be pretty desperate too.

Posted: Sun Nov 07, 2004 8:54 pm

She's Markovian, ya bumble brains, at least if the comic book corresponds to the TV show. Now, where is Markovia ya ask?

Yes, photo courtesy of "Atlas of the DC Universe": http://www.karridian.net/dcatlas.html#vlatava

Posted: Wed Nov 24, 2004 1:20 pm

Raven believes in the god/goddess of Azarath. I do remember in "Fractured" when Raven was chasing Larry saying "the book of Azar is not a toy."

Posted: Fri Dec 31, 2004 4:03 pm

Robin: Doesn't have a religion
BB [Beast Boy]: Doesn't have a religion
Cyborg: Maybe some sort of Christianity
Starfire: Vegan (have no idea what that is but I think I remember reading it somewhere)
Raven: Pagan

Yeah, Ok, I know, this sounds boring, but to me it only makes sense. Well except for the fact that I think I believe that Cyborg doesn't have a religion either, But I think Starfire has one, and by the way it looks I think Raven has one too, anyway, this pretty much sums up my ideas.

Posted: Fri Dec 31, 2004 4:41 pm

-Robin: I'd say Lutheran.
-Starfire: In the comics, she always says "Thank Xhal". So, I'd say she is Xhalian. XD
-Raven: I'd say she's part of the blood clan. Considering, they worshiped her father, and brought her back from the dead, bald >>;. If she isn't, she's probably Pagan.
-Cyborg: It's obvious he's Catholic. :3
-Beast Boy: Probably Jewish, or atheist. He just looks like he'd look good in a yalmulka.
-Terra: She's probably Baptist.
-Slade: Muslim! XD
-Brother Blood: He's part of the blood clan, but if he wasn't, then he's probably be Jewish.
-Mumbo: Um... Agnostic?
-Mad Mod: I'm guessing Catholic?
-Dr. Light: Amish! XD
-Gizmo: Buddhist? Maybe?
-Jinx: She looks Christian...
-Mammoth: Yeah, I'd say he's Amish.
-Bumblebee: She's probably that African one that I don't know the name of. You know, the one that celebrates Quwanzuh[sp?]?
-Aqualad: Jewish.
-Speedy: Christian probably.
-Hotspot: Atheist.
-Mas y Menos: >.O Catholic?
-Wildebeest: AMISH! Very Happy
-Rancid: He looks pretty Atheist.
-Larry: Imp-ish. XD
-Goth Boy [I'm gonna start calling him David]: He worships de vampires! O.O
Anybody else I forgot is Muslim.

Posted: Fri Dec 31, 2004 8:50 pm

Robin: Cath or Luth? [i.e., Catholic or Lutheran]
Starfire: whatever is on her homeplanet.
BB [Beast Boy]: hmm... Christian of some sorts? I really dont know.
Cyborg: I dont know. he is pretty hardy.

Raven: this one is odd. alot think Atheist, but she knows of the supernatural and she knows of demons. and she hates the demons. so I'd think she would be clouded from the truth reguardless of what it is. somehow I doubt that Trigon wants her to know what can banish him. Christian belief is that you cant be possesed if your a believer. so I doubt that she is a Christian. though I cant see her being involved in anything dark either. and magic dosnt = Christian. so I'll say Agnostic. she does seem very confused abou this sorta issue.

Posted: Sat Jan 01, 2005 5:12 pm

Robin = Christian.
Star [Starfire]= Orthodox Tamaranian religion.
BB [Beast Boy]= Buddhism
Raven= Probably nothing. Definitely not an Earth religion.
Cy [Cyborg]= Christian
Terra= Atheist or agnostic (not like she had time to go to church if she was homeless and on the run)
Jinx= Jewish (because she's cool)
Aqualad= Atlantean religion. Possibly a very old Pagan religion that died out shortly after Atlanti sank into the ground.
Blackfire= Same as Starfire, but only if it doesn't interfere with her fun.

Posted: Sat Jan 01, 2005 8:23 pm

Raven's very much more eastern religion. I'd say she'd be more inclined towards Buddhism than BB [Beast Boy]...

Poison in the Blood
Posted: Sat Jan 01, 2005 10:15 pm

Raven- New Age
Beast Boy- Undecided (Jewish-my brother says)
Starfire- The Tamaranian equivilant to Christianity
Robin- Basic Protestant (meh)
Cyborg- Kwanzaa-ish-ism (whatever the hell that one is)

oh yeah, Trigon- SATANIC (he lubs himself!) maniacal laughter

Posted: Sun Jan 02, 2005 2:15 pm

Robin: He seems like one of those people whp put out a good guy personality to hide the fact that they are a Mason or a member of the Illuminati. I think he's Masonic.

Beast Boy: He looks like he'd wear a yamulka (spelling?). He seems Jewish to me.

Raven: Wants to pass as a witch, but in reality she's a Catholic, but since she went to a Catholic school she doesn't want to be one. Very Happy

Starfire: I'm not touching that one...
Cyborg: I'd say a Christian because a lot of Africans in the urban areas tend to be that.
Bumblebee: Same as Cy [Cyborg].
Brother Blood: Satanic cult, most definitely.
Slade: Some assassin's belief system that could have some connection to Bushido.
Speedy: Probably goes to wherever Robin goes.
Johnny Rancid: Same as Brother Blood.
Aqualad: Some Atlantian religion.
Jinx: Most likely Wiccan, although in the comic she was an Indian Sorceress, so probably a middle East religion.
Gizmo: Scientology duh...
Mammoth: Most likely Muslim.

Cinderblock, Overload, and Plasmus: I think they may be stupid enough to think that Alex Trebeck from Jeopardy is some sort of Messiah that they worship the show like some ceremony.

Dr. Light: Arabic religion maybe.

Posted: Mon May 30, 2005 9:34 am

Cyborg-Dead Catholic.
Raven-I dont know. She may be religious because if she know theres a devil, then there must be a god or heaven right?
BeastBoy-Strike me as a Jew who only goes to synogauge(sp?) on holidays

Posted: Mon May 30, 2005 8:12 pm

Hmm... I think--
Robin: Agnostic
Starfire: The religion on Tameran, however, going with Earth religions I would say Christian
Cyborg: Christian, maybe Catholic, but leaning toward Christian

Beastboy: Jewish, he converted solely for the jokes, insulting many comedians. (heh, brownie points to whoever gets the reference Very Happy) However, I can see him celebrating Christmas too...

Raven: Eh, I dunno...

Posted: Tue May 31, 2005 2:32 pm

Robin: Either Shinto or Atheist
Starfire: Tamaranian religion
Cyborg: Southern Baptist
BB [Beast Boy]: Atheist
Raven: A mix of Buddhism and (ugh) Wicca

Posted: Tue May 31, 2005 4:50 pm

Nightwing11 wrote: Raven: A mix of Buddhism and (ugh) Wicca

What's wrong with Wicca? Suits me just fine.

Robin: Agnostic
Cyborg: Protestant (not sure which one) Christian
Beast Boy: Probably Christian maybe Catholic
Starfire: Whatever religion exists on Tameran

Raven: We've had the most hints as to what religion she may be. Right now, no religion, but definitely interested in Wicca. In "Prophecy" I'm told she creates a circle, also using four white candles with it, which would definitely be Wicca. She uses white candles for meditation in "Episode *insert random numbers here*" which is another sign. And she believes in the things that go along with the religion. And meditation is also a part of Wicca in order to help you control your energies. However, the chakra are of yoga philosophy.

Isn't X'Hal or whatever Starfire's Tamaranian religion or somethin like that?

Posted: Tue May 31, 2005 9:18 pm

Robin: Christian
Cyborg: Christian
Beast Boy: Atheist
Starfire: Tamaranian
Raven: Azrathian or Wiccan

Posted: Tue May 31, 2005 9:39 pm

Windspark wrote: Isn't X'Hal or whatever Starfire's Tamaranian religion or somethin like that?

X'Hal is the Goddess of Victory/War, something akin to the Greek's Athena (or Nike, if you go with the victory part). This makes sense, because the Tamaranians are a warlike people.

Unbridled Joy of Flight
Posted: Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:27 am

Like I said, I need to macro this. Summary of X'hal (and other things Tamaranian) from TitansTower.com. Should be added that X'hal is insane.

Posted: Wed Jun 01, 2005 9:23 am

It looks like most of you guys refer "Muslim" as the "evil". I feel pretty offended, 'cause I'm a Muslim myself.

Lucky I'm having a good mood. I'll take that as a joke.

Robin: Agnostic
Starfire: Tamaranian based religion.
Cyborg: Probably some denomination of Christianity

Beast Boy: Agnostic but possibly a bit Christian as well - I don't think he's disciplined enough to follow with the daily prayers of Hinduism or Buddism. I don't know about Buddism but if memory serves Hindus must pray to their God of choice every morning at least.

Raven: Well, I don't know if she has so much a religion than a 'way of life'. Perhaps this is just the culture of Azarath?

Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2005 7:20 pm

That seems to be true for Raven. They seem to live their religion more then practice it on Azarath

Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2005 8:24 pm

Robin- Atheist
Cyborg- Baptist
Starfire- Those crazy Tamaranians worship X'hal, so....yeah. I guess that could be considered Pagan on Earth.
Raven- Wicca or some old Pagan religion with some eastern religion in the mix.
Terra- Agnostic

Beast Boy- Hmm, a toughie. Maybe Agnostic with a hint of Buddism and Christian thrown in? Or maybe some New Age as well. That's it, he follows BEAST BOY-ISM!

Posted: Sat Jun 04, 2005 10:02 pm

Here's my views:
Starfire-Some Tamaranian religion
BB [Beast Boy]-I dunno...most likely a nature revolving religion.

Roar the Mighty
Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 1:08 am

Anyway this is what I'm thinking...
- Robin: Baptist.
- Starfire: Some wierd Tamarainian religion that requires her to marry a large green blob at the tender age of 16.
- Raven: I see her as... an atheist. Or a Budhist because of all the meditation she does.
- Cyborg: Catholic.
- Beast Boy: Jewish.
- Terra: See seems like she's Wiccan to me...
- Slade: I just don't think he's religious; at all.
- Brother Blood: He's probably part of a cult. Check out the robes, man!
- Gizmo: Either a Scientologist, an atheist, or a Buddhist. I think it'd be so funny to see him meditate! Ommmm... Ommmm... Ommmm...
- Jinx: Wiccan.
- Mammoth: Jewish.
- Mas y Menos: Catholic. No question about it.

Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 1:26 pm

It can be easy in some ways to know which religions Robin, Cyborg and Beastboy may believe in, but as for Starfire and Raven, they are alot harder. I guess the prehaps follow the Gods of their own homeworlds.

Posted: Tue Jun 14, 2005 5:21 am

based on the way they act I would say that they are all aethiests

Posted: Wed Jun 15, 2005 6:29 pm

Robin: I'd say Robin is Shinto or Buddhist, but this is a bit tougher than the other boys.
Cyborg: Christian, or Ethiopian Jew...
Beast Boy: Not the foggiest idea. I'd say Agnostic.
Starfire: Whatever religion there is on Tamaran. We know that all of the people there worship X'Hal, though.
Raven: Occult, or whatever is on Azarath. They seem very spiritual and worship Azar, if I remember.
Terra: Whatever they go for on Markovia. But, I will say that Terra believes in Sladeism Wink

Posted: Wed Jun 15, 2005 7:05 pm

FocusedShadow wrote: Terra: Whatever they go for on Markovia.

I thought Terra was a fasicist because she was attempting to "liquidate" the Titans, all considered to be of "inferior" races and not Aryan. Hey, she's got blonde hair and blue eyes while the Titans are a mix of different ethnics and cultures. This all stemming from a fan art drawing I saw of Terra as a getsapo agent, but already that's getting a bit too far.

I see BB [Beast Boy] as Jewish, certainly the comedian and health nut with his tofu cravings. And Robin is Jewish because. . . he was good to his mother. Surprised

Posted: Thu Jun 16, 2005 11:05 am

These are just mere inferences, please don't be offended. xD

Robin: Possibly Christian or Catholic.
Cyborg: Atheist. His parents were scientists, people.

Raven: Also atheist. I doubt after everything she's been through or the way she was raised would give her any options to begin with. If she does practice some form of spiritual guidance or code, it would probably be what she was taught in Azarath.

Beast Boy: Seems like another atheist to me.
Starfire: Whatever the Tamaranian religion is, I think she's referred to some sort of deity during the show, something about 'Soandso the all seeing'.
Terra: Agnostic, maybe? She doesn't seem like the type of person who can really stick with something, especially after betraying the Titans.
Jinx: The religion from her Eastern Indian temple. I have no idea what it is.
Gizmo: He probably doesn't care about religion at all.
Mammoth: Atheist. He was picked on as a child, and he's a villain.

Brother Blood: Well, his ancestor Brother Sebastian was a Christian who obtained the 'prayer shawl of Christ' which slows down the aging process and whatnot. After generations of leading a radical cult, the Christian faith was probably forgotten the day Brother Sebastian started the whole thing. Thus, the present Brother Blood is probably an atheist.

Slade: Religion . . . ha.

Where is it written that one cannot be both religious and a scientist? I'm a tad offended by that but I'll get over it.

About the whole Muslim thing (yes SparkyX I'm Muslim too) if Slade were Muslim he wouldn't go manipulating and all that crap he does, and if Terra were Muslim see above and she would look much more decent...

not to mention pray a lot.
