The Religious Affiliation of U.S. Congresswoman
Rep. Tammy Baldwin

Tammy Baldwin is a U.S. Representative serving in Congress from Wisconsin's 2nd District.

Rep. Tammy Baldwin's official government biographies leave blank the "faith/religion" field, but acknowledge her as the "first openly gay person to be elected to Congress as a non-incumbent" (http://www.tammybaldwin.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={25C89370-EEF6-4F6D-8BC9-88BF6923AD4A}).

The fact that Rep. Baldwin is listed on the "Religious Affiliation of U.S. Congress" list as GLBT does not mean that she is the only GLBT person in Congress; it simply means that she is the only person whose only acknowledged religion is GLBT (sociologically speaking, of course, and not necessarily in a theological sense). Rep. Barney Frank and Rep. Jim Kolbe are both openly GLBT, but acknowledge their religious affiliation as Jewish and Methodist, respectively, and are thus classified in the Congressional Religious Affiliation tables as such. In the summary statistics table above Rep. Baldwin is counted among "unspecified."
