The Religious Affiliation of Comic Book Character
John McDonagh wrote to us with this excellent suggestion (24 May 2006):
He does [yet] not have an entry [on Adherents.com's "Religious Affiation of Comic Book Characters" list], but one should note that Tyrannus (who is in fact the last Western Roman Emperor Romulus Augustus per Avengers Annual #20) would possibly be Roman Catholic, as he came after the Theodosian Code.
Mystic Arcana: Black Knight #1 (September 2007), page 17, shows Tyrannus attacking the original Black Knight (Sir Percy of Scandia). Tyrannus here claims to serve the Greco-Roman death-god Pluto:
Fool! Do you think to prevail against Tyrannus -- who embodies the might of ancient Rome--? And who serves the death-god whom the Greeks called Hades -- we Romans, Pluto?
