Some years ago, Pyro contracted the Legacy virus, a fatal disease affecting mainly mutants. He committed several crimes in attempts to find a cure, but was not successful. He died just after saving Senator Robert Kelly's life from a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants...
Pyro was a Catholic from Australia.

Pyro was strongly implied to be Catholic (or at least of a Catholic background) ...although I guess not a very good one.
