Joseph Lieberman: The closest the U.S. has come to having a non-Christian Vice-President:
In the year 2000 presidential election, Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut became the first Jewish American to run for vice-president on a major national party ticket. He was narrowly defeated and may seek national office again in the future. Interestingly enough, Lieberman is a practicing Orthodox Jew, although Orthodox Jews are the branch of American Judaism which has been more supportive of Republican candidates than the other, more liberal branches of Judaism.
